this blows my mind

here, for the first time, you too can experience the excruciating pain that is my TA position at Penn State.

(in hyper colour)

First a little context:

“. Cornell and my work can relate to the surrealist movement as the artwork from this movement focused on positive emotions. My family vacation is a positive experience and Disney World is a fantasy place, an environment of dreams and happiness.”

“Starting at the far left end of my cabinet there are characters from the Seven Dwarfs, Lady and the Tramp, The Lion King, 101 Dalmatians, Goofy, Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Donald, Winnie the Pooh, Bambi, Pinocchio, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Tinkerbelle, Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella, Dumbo and Mary Poppins. This assemblage of items almost creates a story.”

Now here is the work, which she admits is just a picture of a shelf she took on a trip home.

Now imagine grading 35 other papers of that caliber…

Saturday Ride/Sunday Ride

Ok here is the final plan: Saturday the 16th, Mtn ride @ 2pm, @ the church on seminary ave, Loch Raven in Baltimore. Under 15 miles.

Sunday, meet @ Cory’s house, around 8am. We’ll leave around 9. 60 miles or so. Bring fat tires if you have em, dont sweat it too much if you dont. Bring lunch, plenty of water. Nick is providing  donuts and I am bringing potato pancakes, which we’ll fry up about halfway through the ride.  I hear we might need lights, so bring em. Its supposed to be in the 50s, but not in the morning, so dress right. The pace will vary, but will never be fast. No one but the slowest of the slow will feel…slow (me). Anyone who has stuff they want to cook up for lunch, or who has a case of beer or something, that they want to consume halfway through the ride, you can drop it off at Cory’s blue recycling bin before 8pm, saturday nite, and we’ll run it up to the halfway house, as it were.  Cory is @ 18 west 6th street, frederick MD. Ride your bike there so you dont feel bad about drinking adult beverages afterward. Email me @ jamesjohnsonart(at)yahoo(dot)com for details.

no saturday, only sunday ride?

ok, so now it looks like maybe just a sunday ride?  i’m down.  everyone can make that, john, james, gary, me, nick, maybe mark, maybe rob, and maybe some others i dont know.  I assume cory can switch it up.  he’ll let me know if he cant.  we can use cory’s route that way.  and i wont have to go thru fits trying to make another route.  it can still be a chanukah ride right?  i like donuts and potato pancakes.

ramble-for-web.jpg
i know it sounds suicidal, but how about 2 60 milers back to back? that way, we get to ride with more people who cant make the saturday ride. i’m waiting to hear back from cory on the viability of such a venture.

frederick hanukkah ride- december 16th

dreidel.jpg60 mile or so ride, in Frederick, up in the south mtn range, dirt, chip roads, back roads, some fireroads, ect ect. Cory is leading it, no cue sheet. Slow pace for the fatties, Cory will drink bourbon to slow himself down. We will drink it to speed ourselves up. Lunch in the middle, somewhere, pack a sandwich. Meet at Cory’s casbah/crabshack/hipster hideout, on W. 6th street. Its easy to recognize, its the only house on the block that looks like a salmon coloured fishing shanty. Gather forth @ 8am, leave around 9. Email me @ jamesjohnsonart(at)yahoo(dot)com for more details.

carradice bags catalog archive

They also have a bunch of carradice catalogs. If I were homeless and needed to live out of paniers this is probably how I’d set my bike up.

Found it through these guys who had a post about some ancient carradice panniers.

Would you like a sandwich?

I’d been meaning to write something about dumpster diving ever since the Ramble at State College. A guy at the party was into dumpster diving and he said he would find all kinds of edible stuff like vegetable platters and bags of chips that were past their sell by date but not quite past there use by date. At first I just thought that guy was kind of gross but then some one told me that it’s a very “hip” thing to do. I will try to keep my opinions on eating trash to a minimum. But I will say that the thought of eating an english muffin and then later realizing that it was full of mold makes me want to vomit.

Here is a fairly uninformative article but it has informative links at the bottom. The picture at the top of the article further proves my hipster theory because only cool kids wear Looney Tunes shirts. And if she isn’t hip then I should just hang up my dread lock pirate hat right now!

nice stash.

I think this kind of blurs the lines of dumpster diving, fishing and foraging.
