big early february weekend ride/swap thing

feb 3 is a saturday, for those of you who arnt savants. 60-75 mile road ride in frederick, lead by me, so it wont be retardedly throw-upably hard like cory’s, but it will make you sweat and call someone mean names. i’ve been busy predriving, secretly, the course. my plan is to take it out to boonsboro, via smithsburg and meyersville, and back. there will be a stop at south mtn creamery. for those who partook in the applachian trail of tears ride, this ride will harken back to that. i want to get an early start, so we can stop in boonsboro at some convivial place of sudsy adult beverages, and then start our ride refreshed. i’ll post a ride diagram soon. my prediction: minimal dirt roadage. alot of chip roads and country roads, but no fire roads, no singletrack. conceivably easy to do on a normal road bike with 28s. anyway. after the ride, back to cory’s house, where we drink heavily, and then wake up @ 6 the next morning and go to the westmister swap and lose all our money on thorn flickers, miss-matched mafac brake levers, and lower jockey pulleys to huret allivit derailluers.

  1. Ironically it’s also a Jewish holiday, Tu B’Shvat (New Year for Trees). I will not be able to attend. I’m going to have to get a Christian to ride my bike for me.

    Just kidding, I’m in.

  2. I’ll look into the kids schedules, but I’m interested. Tell me again how going over 2 mountains 2 times each is not as big a deal as going over the same mountain three times.

This is assuming I get my broken bike back together. The rear hub shell was cracked. The axle was bent too.

  3. did i call it or did i call it? phil wood makes an excellent rear hub you should look into, a touring model with big bearings and an oversized rear axle. its cheap cause its for a freewheel. i have one on my wifes bike. its cool cause it only needs one size spoke.
hopefully the ride wont be as hard cause there will be less potatoe pancakes, and zero mtn biking.

  4. also: if everyone grumbles at once i might make it a thurmont frederick ride, alot less climbing that way, if we stay on the floor rather than ride up the mountains.

  5. You called it for sure. I think I’m going with a formula hub budget build. The Formula fixed hub I have has been really good. I’m going to get some climbing gears on there too.

  6. Hey bike nerds!

    That’s Superbowl Sunday.

  7. the swap is over @ 2.30. still concerned? pansy.
