Restored Bianchi SLX on fixed gear gallery
While I’m not a big fan of this type of stem, I think it jibes really well with the whole bike. I guess that’s a luxury you can afford when you completely restore a bike like this. I’m not the lug expert but that bicycle has lugs so it gets extra points.
I’ve been fairly addicted to the gallery lately but my biggest issue with most fixed gear bikes right now is that they don’t have proper mounts or touring bits. Since most of my road cycling has focused on this (I guess since Johnson keeps scheduling these mini randonneur events) I guess it’s not quite a moot point.
No commentsTrack bike spin thing
Thought this was kind of interesting especially since he shot the video about a block from my house.
No commentsfoot-down competition
Kind of funny, we tried to organize something like this a few years ago in Baltimore (Derby in the Dirty Dugout). It turned into more of a freak show with some weird messenger guy trying to pick a fight with Johnson every 5 seconds and another guy who was too worried about his pristine track bike to let anyone get close to him.

If anyone knows what those characters mean let me know. I’m guessing it means ping pong but I could be wrong.

Ran across this picture of the Spaceman Flask Holster whilst perusing flickr.

Gilligan’s Island
This guy hacked up a bunch of hard drive magnets and some bikes to make a generator, Gilligan’s Island style.

Amazon Deforestation continued
Just wanted to bump this topic again. After reading John’s comments on the amazon deforestation post I thought I should google around because other then knowing deforestation is a bad thing, I’m pretty much in the dark.
Looks like John was right, the amazon is being clear cut for more then just telephone pole export. This mongabay.com link says the leading cause from 2000-2005 was cattle, with 1% being commercial agriculture. But it looks like soybeans might be the current culprit. No more brazilian edamame for me and no more KFC?
