Gotta Love Critical Mass
SFGate has a mildly slanted story about a Critical Mass ride in San Francisco where a crazy bitch in a minivan plowed into some cyclists (that’s my slant).
Bicycle Coalition executive director Leah Shahum said witnesses told her that Ferrando “recklessly accelerated” into a crowd and hit the bicyclist so hard the bike was lodged under her vehicle.
I didn’t realize that critical mass in SF was so fucking huge. Makes Baltimore Critical Masses look pretty puny.
Mildly slanted indeed. I love the picture of the mom and her daughters in their Catholic school uniforms next to the shattered window. All three of them look like hardened killers.
My favorite thing about the story is the utter lack of anthing factual. Way to dig deep Marisa and Cecilia!
my citizenship democracy and contemporary urban design professor started critical mass, which started in frisco. its a bigger issue out there than it is in b-more. look at nyc, they have a big ass one too.

I suspect neither side is giving a full accounting of the story. The driver seems to have done something stupid at a thin part of the mass (one story said approx 12 bikes near when it happened), and the Critical masses seem to have over reacted. Seems to me all those alleged witnesses could have told the cops which over zealous biker smashed the window (Sometimes I crack myself up. Yeah, THAT’s gonna happen). Maybe ‘Bicycle Coalition executive director Leah Shahum’ could offer to pick up the tab for the window replacement and the driver could pay for the bike damage (if the bike and rider can be found).

haha, sorry John. I guess my generalization is similar to what’s happening in with that critical mass situation. One crazy fucker breaks a window and all of the sudden the whole group of critical mass riders are lumped in with the crazy. We had a few death threats on Johnson’s life and I saw that snippet there and I automatically think that all military folks are crazy.
Honestly though, I’m really interested to see how that guy is going to teach “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” by “BEATING YOUR ASS AND RUINING YOUR 3000.00 BIKE”.
