novy joga class
so I found some new yoga class here.
a friend told me about a place that she thought was kinda close to me that had English language yoga. I went last night to try it out, and found out a few things:
1st - riding without gloves and with chacos on eggbeaters on cobblestoned streets is pretty tricky, especially when you get to the intersections where tram lines cross. Even if it was only a ten minute ride away.![]()
2nd - English language yoga, means the teacher knows English. The whole class was Czech + me, so the instruction was 2/3 in Czech which was fine. I’ll probably learn something. The class was very good though, even though the students joked with the teacher whenever she said ties (when she mean thighs. the “th” sound is difficult for people here.) It’s Iyengar which sounds very relaxed, but it worked me hard. It was very similar to Scott’s take on the Vibrant and Vigorous class, with a few extra pillows.![]()
3rd - The summer at 50 degrees and 4 minutes north of the equator is nice. I rode home from yoga at 9:45pm in daylight. (I’m a bit concerned as to what will happen in about six months though!)![]()

Cory does yoga?
If you want to quiet your mind, just fire in that PAL format edition “Hell of the North” DVD and hop on the rollers. Sheesh.
Oh yeah, but Cory is a special yoga student because he would always have huge bruises from riding that he would show off in his Umbros. And at the beginning of class when the teacher would ask if anyone had a body part that hurt that evening he would say, “the whole thing.”
I can’t help it that I always that you could see the bruises if I did yoga in a burqa.
And Nick, do you have ‘Hell of the North’ on DVD? cause you so have to make a copy and send it to me. How about ‘A Sunday in Hell?’ Although I probably can find them here, huh?
Having lived in Stuttgart, can you say dark at 4pm
but then again your farther east and in the same timezone so maybe 3pm
crap!
yeah, I know it was 4:30 when I lived in France. the same time zone, and a 9 hour drive west of where I am now.
Way to go Cory, it is about time you got back to yoga. I like the “English” class, and what does one do w/ all those props.
apparently you lay the big one “the bolster” under your spine like you would a couple of blankets. also you can lay it across your legs as a dead weight. I think you sit on the little disc shaped one, or lay your head on it. then there are block and blankets and straps, that have their normal usage.
Plus we did headstands in my first class.
(and 1 week on and I think I am still sore.)
