Maintenance-Free Drivetrain?
The drivetrain consists out of a Rohloff Speedhub in combination with a completely capsuled chain drivetrain. The rear wheel can be removed without touching the chain. This is realized by a special couppling between the internal geared hub and the rear pinion gear. The rear pinion gear stay on the bike and is a part of the drivetrain.
I think I’d go with a belt drive if I was that worried about having to maintain a chain. Plus don’t all chains eventually crap out even if they are capsuled?

if i were leaning towards maintenance free, i might look at a shaft drive:

True. And while we’re at it why not go for the ultimate, drive train free:

sign me up, i want maintenance free, next build some tubes that don’t leak air, maybe i should go old school and get some solid rubber tires
All you smart guys want to save maintenance and weight. Where is shaft drive. Horsepower ,or whatever you pedal bikers call it,energy, I guess is lost in chains or belts.
um, chains are almost 100 percent efficient. Derailleurs only add a marginal amount of friction. According to Sheldon Brown, chains in enclosed chain guards with oil baths, ala old british city bikes, can last virtually forever. That said, with prolink, its pretty hard to wear out a chain, at least on a road bike.
also, belts are for pants.
also, internal gears are for czech defectors.
