Washing Your Bike
At the 24 hours of Big Bear there was an area to “wash” your bike. It was basically a bike rack and a few power washers. Now I know better than to blast water into areas that don’t like it, that’s why I don’t have a bidet. This also applies to parts of my bike that have greased bearings and other lubed parts. I’ll admit that I did want to go to the bike wash and blast some of the layers of dirt from my bike before I left for home. I was quickly shut down by Johnson and Brian and forced to use a dry rag. However, I’m not a big fan of the complete dry wash, so here is a link I ran across that seems pretty straight forward and doesn’t involve power washing the grease out of your bearings.
Oddly enough, the most important thing to know about washing bicycles is how not to do it. Do not hook up the high-pressure nozzle on your garden hose and blast your bike clean. And absolutely do not visit your local do-it-yourself car wash, plug the machine full of quarters and supersonically blast your pride and joy clean.

some of you may remember sharing a room with me when I raced cyclocross nationals a few years back. I did the bike in the shower thing.
But for some reason I think I recall the shower wasn’t so happy?!

something about it clogging the drain with 32 pounds of mud 3.2 seconds into the shower, and then leaving the resulting stew….
